10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

Spring cleaning isn’t fun for a lot of us. But it has to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up over the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of a home?
The outside of your house could likely use some refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your house in Auburn, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed maintenance and care that will save you money in years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the best time to clean your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during the spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are searching for places to build homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and restoring them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows can be a bit trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring job, and it will require a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem strange because you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing service will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio gets the most use during the summer months, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter when you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio might be in bad condition the first time you go onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or mildew, you may need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical roof issues in Auburn. While you are cleaning the outside of your house, it’s a great time to clean your home’s roof too, but you will have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then let it be. This solution will eliminate any organic organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your house is going to be what most people see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and it will probably motivate you to spend more time outside.

Clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and consider painting it for a really fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You’ll soon be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent time to organize the things you will need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an assigned place outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the outside of your house so much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a big impact on the overall look of your house.

Kill weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.

Wet it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.

You can probably finish these projects over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Auburn Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
